EGG PRICES

NEW METHOD ADOPTED INCREASE ON MONDAY (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Price Tribunal stated yes- • tereiay, that following the announcement of the new method of egg pricing recently made by the Minister for Industries and Commerce, a price Order, setting out the increased prices on the new basis, was gazetted on February f 16. The Tribunal pointed out that the higher retail price would operate on and after Monday, February, 20, 1950. The prices for the various marketing areas, which included the majority of the urban residential areas, would be: In the North Island marketing areas, 4s 2d per dozen for heavy grade, 4s for standard grade, 36 lOd for medium. Pullet grade eggs in Auckland would be 3s 5d per dozen, in Hawke’s Bay 3s 4d and in Wellington 3s 4Jd. South Island marketing areas, other than Westland, 3s lOd per dozen for heavy grade, 3s 8d for standard, 3s 6d for medium and 3s OJd for pullet. Westland (whole of) 4s Old, for heavy grade, 3s 101 d for standard, 3s 81d for medium and 3s 31d for pullet. Elser where the retail price would be Id per dozen lower. Wherever retailers had to meet inward freight charges from the nearest point of wholesale delivery consumer prices could be increased to cover extra cost.
