ATOM BOMB CARRIER

. U.S. NAVAL PLANS (Rec. 9.0) WASHINGTON, Feb. 16. Naval architects are working on tentative designs for an atom-bomb aircraft-carrier of between 50,000 and 55,000 tons. This would be at least 10,000 tons smaller than the 65,000ton United States, on which construction was suspended by the intervention of the Defence Secretary, Mr Louis Johnson, after part of the keel was laid down in 1949. The navy does hot intend to submit new carrier, plans to Mr Johnson for financial authorisation for at least a year. i>
