ORDER OF ST. JOHN

REPORTS AND ELECTION OF , OFFICERS Reports on various aspects of the many-sided activities of the Venerable Order of St. John were presented and officers were elected at * tlie annual meeting held last evening. The Sub-Centre report recorded a year of steady progress. It noted the new interest created by. the successful work of the boy and girl cadets, and expressed the centre’s thanks to many generous supporters of the association and brigade.

Sectional reports comprised those of the Ambulance Brigade, the Nursing Division, Ambulance Cadets and Nursing Cadets.

Ambulance Brigade The brigade reported a strength of 14, the same as last year. The need for brigade services was indicated by the fact that 321 injuries treated by members on duty, and 512 apart from public duty. Forty-six patients were transported to hospital, and no fewer than 2036 hours on duty were given by transport officers. A record of lectures, blood donations and competitions completed the report. Supplementing this account of adult activities was the report of the cadet division (the first such report) which stated a roll of nine keen juniors, who it was hoped, would be in uniform in the new year. Nursing Division Ambulance and public duty were features of the nursing division year, and their report showed a busy year of service. Dr. Connor ancl Mrs Totty had given talks, and the work of the lady superintendent (Miss Vesty) bad been invaluable. Nursing, cadets returned a strength of 26. Of these 17 bad obtained their Home Nursing certificates, stated the report. A highlight of the year had been participation in tlie Youth Rally arranged by the Ashburton Rotary Club.

Election of Officers The election of officers resulted: President, Mr H. D. Johnston; vicepresidents, Mesdames W. H. Rundle, J. Russell Wells, R. Stephenson, and B. Hight; Doctoi-s N. E. H. Fulton, J. Russell Wells, J. Connor, and Messrs E. C. Bathurst, C. H. F. Maynard, C. G. de C. Drury, H. W Smallbone and W. H. Sarney . ; The general committee was electee, as follows: Mesdames R- Totty, A. Rodd, E. R. Tarbotton, Miss Pritchard, Messrs C. Drury, W. Soal, A. Rodd, C. Ireland, 11. Ilefford and Dr. Fulton.
