DROUGHT PERSISTS

POSITION SERIOUS IN SOUTH AFRICA (Rec. 10.0) CAPE TOWN, Feb. 15. Drought killed more than 900,000 cattle last year in thd Border, Midlands and Transvaal areas of the Eastern Cape Province, according to official estimates. The drought has now lasted five years, and though there have been moderate rains recently, the position is still serious.

In some parts boreholes have dried up, and towns have been depending oit water carried by rail. Churches are praying for rain.
