PROMOTION FOR MELBOURNE
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (Rec. 10.35) CANBERRA, This Day. Cabinet has approved of the designation of Melbourne as an international airport in addition to Darwin and ■Sydney. The Minister for Air, Mr White, said the Government was considering negotiations for an additional service between the South Island of New Zealand and Melbourne to parallel the present trans-Tasman service. The Government was also considering a new South African service following J recent test flight. International passengers will be permitted to fly overland in non-Australian aircraft in competition with Australian lines, provided reciprocal agreements are forthcoming from the countries in which the passengers embark.
