NATIONAL CARNIVAL RESTORATION BY MINISTER (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 14. The Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. A. Bodkin, has granted the Wellington Racing Club a mid-week day for its winter meeting so that the meeting will be held on two consecutive Saturdays and on an intervening week-day. He said this evening would be generally agreed that this proposal would be in the best interests of all concerned with the sport of racing, and that the shorter period over which the meeting would be held would minimise disruption in industry. The Minister also announced that following representations that had been made to him by the Racing and Trotting Conference, he nad decided to restore what were formerly known, as National and Carnival Weeks in Christchurch. In the former week the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club and the Canterbury Jockey Club each had three days of racing from Saturday to Saturday, and in the latter week the Trotting Club had three days and the Jockey Club four days of racing extending over a similar period. The present year, added the Minister, was a particularly appropriate time for this restoration as Canterbury Province would be celebrating its centenary.
