BLAZE AT ALLENTON

MAYOR’S STORE DAMAGED When dames from a rubbish fire set alight to the rear part of the store owned by the Mayor (Mr E. C. Bathurst) in Alford Forest Road, shortly after 8 a.m. to-day, the establishment narrowly escaped extensive damage. The rear wall and part of the ceiling were well alight, when the Ashburton Volunteer Fire Brigade was called to the scene, but strenuous efforts by the firemen brought the outbreak under control. Actually the wall was burned right through. Light damage was caused to some of the stock by water.
