ATTEMPT ON WORLD RECORD

AUSTRALIAN WOMEN’S RELAY TEAM

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Feb. 14. An attempt on the world record for the women’s relay of four 110 yards will be made by the Australian British Empire Games champion team, Misses Marjorie Jackson, Shirley Strickland, Verna Johnston and Ann Shanley, on the Sydney sports grounds next Saturday. The record for this relay, established in 1944 by a Netherlands team, of which Mrs Fanny Blankers-Koen was a member, is 48.8 seconds. Last Saturday at Eden Park Misses Jackson (220 yards), A Strickland (.110 yards), and Johnston (110 yards) ran their relay race in 47.9 seconds. Miss Shanley ran a 110 yards leg in the 660 yards relay, won by the Australian team, with Misses Jackson, Strickland and Johnston as the other members.
