WAKANUI. THE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. The monthly meeting of the Wakanui Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday, when Mrs T. S. Taylor presided. Motions of sympathy were ' passed with Mesdames Frampton, Brand, Bonifant, and Bonnington and Misses Leddy and Lawry. The members planted a scarlet beech tree in the hall grounds to commemorthe Coronation, each member putting in a spadeful of earth. A demonstration of quilting was given by Mrs T. S. Taylor. The monthly competitions were won as follows:—Qrgandi work members: Mrs iP. Hyland 1, Mrs C. Frampton 2, Mrs H. Watson 3; junior members: Miss E. Protheroe 1, Miss P. Brand 2, Miss K. Hyland 3. Bottle preserved apricots: Senior: Mrs C. Crawford 1, Mrs G. Brand 2, Mrs C. Frampton 3; junior: Miss C. Frampton 1, Miss K. Hyland 2. Premier bloom — Senior: Mrs A. Ford 1, Mrs C. Frampton 2, Mrs P. Hyland 3; junior: Miss C. Frampton 1, Miss P. Brand 2, Miss K. Hyland and Miss M. Wilson (equal) 3. The hostesses were Mesdames C. Crawford, A. Ford, and Miss E. Eden. PENDARVES. MISSIONARY UNION. * The Pendarves Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union held its monthly meeting recontly. Mrs Ashford presided. The secretary read a letter from the Maori Mission Committee asking for donations to the deficit fund. Mrs Ashford gave a talk on her work in the London slums. LAU RISTON. SOCIAL AND' DANCE. Another excellent attendance was recorded at the Lauriston Social Club’s fortnightly social and dance, held on Saturday evening at the Lauriston MemorialdHall. Competitions, conducted by Messrs S'. Letham and F. Hampton, resulted as follows: —Mrs H. Cornwall (Winch-, more) 1, Mrs P. Brick (Rokeby) 2; Mr M. Dwyer (Winchmore) 1, Mr F. A. Anderson 2. Music for the dancing was played by Mr R, Ford (Eiffelton). Mr H. Farquhar was the master of ceremonies.
