RECORD IN BRITAIN.

HOLIDAY SPENDING. (United Press Association—Copyright.. LONDON, August 6. The Bank of England returns on the active note circulation show that all records for spending were broken over the August bank holiday. Currency notes in circulation on Wednesday amounted to £503,877,456, the highest figure ever recorded in Britain, and £5,538,746 more than the previous week. A large proportion of the increase was due to the greater number of people in employment, and to the holiday season. Meanwhile, the usual holiday slackness on the Stock Exchange is not apparent this year, arid business remains persistently active, and with a firm tone, particularly in the home industrial section.—British Official Wireless.
