SALVATION ARMY.

ASHBURTON CORPS ANNIVER- ‘ SARY. The fifty-fourth anniversary of the Ashburton Salvation Army Corps was celebrated during the week-end. A concert was given by St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church choir, under the choirmaster (Mr L. J. Watt) on Saturday evening. The choir sang the anthem, “Brother James Air,” “Rock of Ages,” “Sun of My Soul,” and “An * Evening Hymn,” part-songs, “The Lost Chord” and “Where’er You Walk,” while tho Salvation Army Band played the march “Victorious,” the selection “A Sunbeam,” and the anthem “Oh, Taste and See.” Other items were vocal solos, Mr E. G. Craighead, Misses I. Jamieson, and Gardner, Mr H. S. Gardner, Mrs Craighead; vocal duet, Mr and Mrs Craighead; xylophone solos, Mr H. Hayward; recitation, Miss L. Jackson; pianoforte solos, Mrs A. C. Williams. The special anniversary services yesterday were taken by LieutenantColonel F. J. Burton (field secretary for New Zealand), who gave addresses appropriate to the occasion. The afternoon service was in the form of a musical meeting, at which Lieutenant-Col-onel Burton spoke of the work of the Salvation Army among Die Maoris. A male voice party, songsters, and the band contributed sacred music during the service last evening.
