(From Our Own Correspondents.) MAYFIELD. THE WOMEN’S DIVISION. The president (Mrs J. D. Murdoch) presided over a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. It was resolved that a letter of sympathy be sent to Mrs Barker in her illness. A discussion was held in reference to the educational course for junior members of the Division to be held at the end of August, and it was decided to send a delegate. It was decided that at the next monthly meeting gifts be handed in for the leper# j also that pcggy squares be collected to be made up into a quilt. The sum of £3 was voted to the community chest and £2 to the executive fund. - ' Mrs Ashton gave a comprehensive report of the Dominion Conference held in Wellington. She was accorded a vote of thanks. Competitions resulted: —• Flowers: Mrs G. Murdoch 1, Mrs J. I). Murdoch 2, Mrs W. Robertson 3. Bloom: Mrs G. Murdoch 1, Mrs J. D. Murdoch 2, Mrs W. Robertson 3. Silver beet: Mrs J. D. Murdoch 1, Article made from flour bag: Mrs J. D. Murdoch 1. Mrs W. Robertson was in charge of the sales table, and the hostesses were Mrs D. Howden and Mrs T. Taylor. One new member was welcomed. The librarian reported having received 12 new books for the library, METHVEN. THE WOMEN’S DIVISION. The monthly meeting of the Methven branch of the 'Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was presided oyer by Mrs S. G. Holmes. The Lyndhurst Women’s Institute forwarded an invitation to the annual birthday party. Final arrangements were made for the luncheon to be tendered to Cabinet Ministers and members of the Farmers’ Union on the occasion of the visit of the former on August 17. Misses I. Bland and R. Carleton were appointed delegates for the Division for the Educational Week to be held in Christchurch. Mrs Cbttrell gavea reading on the creed card. Mrs Cottrell gave a reading on the the recent conference in Wellington, was unable to present the report owing to sickness. Five new members were elected. Competitions resulted:—Pot plant, Mrs Robinson 1, Miss M. Fleming 2, Mrs A. L. Mangin 3. Scones, Mrs Robertson 1, Mrs T. S. Harrison 2, Mrs S. Hampton 3. Knitting, Mrs A. Kenish 1, Miss G. Macale 2, Mrs W. G. Breach 3. Vegetables, Mrs Robertson 1: The hostesses were Mesdames J. R. D'alton, T. S. Harrison, Misses Dalton and D, Harrison. FLEMINGTON. THE PRESBYTERIAN MISSION. The monthly meeting of the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union was well attended. The president (Mrs DD. MacLachlan) was in the chair. A letter received from the field in China, was read by Mrs J. Papworth. The Rev. D. D. MacLachlan gave the second of a series of addresses on World Movements and their effect upon Christian missionary enterprise. The subject chosen w T as: “Nazism and Communism; their agreements and disagreements with the Church and their missionary zeal.” Mrs E. Taylor (secretary) in thanking the speaker said there was need for a missionary-minded church when the present world crisis was viewed. The grave danger was complacency. Hostesses were Mesdames J. M. Johnston and I. F. Read. CHERTSEY. PERSONAL. ft Mr and Mrs Hargraves have returned from Britain after seeing the Coronation. Mr Hargraves, who was formerly headmaster at the Chertsey School, is going to iScargill as headmaster.
