NO CHOIR CONTEST.

DECISION OF INSTITUTES. MEETING OF THE FEDERATION. A decision not to hold the annual choir contest this year was made at the meeting this afternoon of the executive of the Mid-Canterbury Federation of Women’s Institutes, at which the president (Mrs F. Curtis) presided others present being Mesdames H. J. Constable (secretary), J. McQuilkin, Davis, Mcßae, Ruddock, R. Austin and Miss Stevenson. Invitations to birthday parties were received from the Lauriston, Hampstead, Lyndhnrst, Hinds and AshtonWaterton Institutes. It was decided to forward to nine children certificates of merit in connection with the recent essay competition. Mrs A. H. Sandrey (Highbank) who was recently co-opted to the executive, was warmly welcomed. The annual report and balance-sheet of the Dominion Federation was received. Donations were received from the Highbank and Mayfield Institutes. It was decided to form a drama subcommittee to make arrangements for future festivals. The voluntary organisers reported having made visits to the Low.cliffe, Mayfield, Ashton-Waterton am) Alienton Institutes. Arrangements were made for the Half-yearly council meeting to be held at Rakaia on October 12. Competitions at this meeting will be evening • shoulder-spray and hand-made handker--chiefs.
