SOUTHERLY STORM TO-DAY. SUDDEN CHANGE OCCURS. A sudden change occurred in the Aveatber in Ashburton this morning. Warm, sunny Aveather Avas experienced for most of the morning, but about 11 o’clock the sky became overcast, and three-quarters of an hour later a violent southerly 7 wind succeeded the north-westerly Avind Avhich had been blowing earlier. These conditions continued, Avith fairly heavy rain, during the afternoon. The temperature became cold. The frost recorded at the Domain AA'eather station this morning Avas of 6.8 degrees. The maximum temperature yesterday was degrees, and the inside minimum last night 32 degrees. The barometer at 9 o’clock this morning had fallen to 29.10 inches from 29.44 inches yesterday morning. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the Aveather : General inference: Pressure is very loav to the south and south-east, but high over the Avestern and northern portions of the Tasman. Sea, an intense anti-cyclone still being located over Australia. The'forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as folloAvs : Moderate to strong Avesterly Avinds, backing soon to southerly, and reaching gale force in places. Weather becoming cold and changeable, with shoAvers in most places and. probably some hail, and, on high country, siioav. Seas becoming rough.
