£56 FOR BULLOCK.
SALE AT NATIONAL MARKET. HIGHEST PRICE' SINCE 1926. The top price of £56, paid for an extra prime heavy-weight bullock at the National “double market” at Addington yesterday, was the highest since 1926. The Addington National sale is regarded throughout New Zealand as providing the greatest all-round display of show fat stock of the year, particularly in the fat cattle section. Graziers in- both Islands are usually represented, and at yesterday’s market the toppriced bullock came from Otago. It had taken prizes in several agricultural and pastoral shows in Otago. The record price for Addington of £204 was paid for a single bullock sold at the 1920 National market. It was a purebred Shorthorn, magnificently finished, and weighing 30561 b. At the same sale a bullock —an 11-year-old weighing 30521 b—brought £97. The next best price was paid in 1926, when a Friesian sold on account of Mr A. J. Keith (Ashburton) brought £9O, and established a world record weight of 39001 b. This beat the record held by the “Durham Ox” since 1801. Its weight was 38081 b. The top prices paid for fat cattle at National markets at Addington since 1924 are as f0110w1925, £4l; 1926, £9O; 1927, £4O; 1928, £4O; 1929, £sl; 1930, £44; 1931, £sl; 1932, £32; 1933, £2O 10s; 1934, £2O; 1935, £23 2s 6d; 1936, £4O.
