RAIN FALLS' DURING NIGHT. Fairly heavy rain fell in Ashburton last night until early this morning. The total fall: recorded at the Domain weather station was 29 points. The weather was fine but dull, with a cold northerly wind. The maximum temperature yesterday was 48.3 degrees, and the inside minimum last night 38.2 degrees. The barometer at 9 o’clock this morning stood at 29.68 inches, compared with 29.51 inches yesterday morning. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Aleteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: The depression reported yesterday has passed eastward off the Dominion, and barometers have risen somewhat. An intense anticyclone is advancing across southern Australia, but a number of secondary depressions is still apparently moving over the South Tasman Sea. The forecast for -the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: Aloderate to strong south-westerly winds, veering temporarily to' westerlies. Weather mainly fair, but changeable and with occasional showers at most places. Temperatures cool. Seas moderate to rather rough.
