ADVANCE ASHBURTON.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The executive of the Advance Ashburton Association met last evening. The Temuka Progress Association wrote requesting a copy of the Association’s rules. The Ashburton Trotting Club wrote that it bad donated £lO to the funds of the Association, and stating that if the Association could raise £75 in subscriptions before January 30 next, the Club would grant a further £ls. The Club regretted that the Association was meeting difficulty in maintaining support on the part of the public. The meeting expressed its hearty thanks to tlie Club. Mr S- Mitchell said it was a very fine gesture on the part of the Club. He did not think the Association would have much trouble in collecting the necessary subscriptions to enable it to qualify for the further grant. Tlie president (Mr M. J. Burgess) said the donation was another act of practical help by the Club. Hie knew tlie sentiment behind the gift would be appreciated bv the Association. The donation was an example other local bodies might follow. Mr Burgess added that a resident had given liim 10s toward the Association’s funds. For the Beautifying Committee, Mr W. Thomas reported that routine work had been carried out in the past month. The secretary (Mr G. V. Furby) stated that the prize money for the art union bad been lodged with the bank, and the preliminary arrangements completed.
