LODGE MEETINGS
DRUIDS’ ROYAL ARCH CHAPTER. THE RITUAL COMPETITION. A ritual competition conducted by the Royal Arch Chapter, No. 4, U.A.0.D., was held last evening for the W. Christmas Memorial Shield. Seven teams competed, _ the judges being Bros. T. Burgess, P.G.P., P- H. Gotten, D.P., and F. L. Hernott, P.D.P., of the. No. 1 R.A. Chapter, Christchurch. The results were as follow: — Timaru Lodge;, 80 for text, 90| for elocution, 104 for effect, total - Success of Ashburton, No. 1, 78|, 83, 105, 266 J, 2. Star of Ashburton No. 1, 72, 80, 106, 258, 3. Lily of Temuka, No. 1, 62£, 80, 105, 247|, 4. Success of Ashburton, No. 2, 82*, 106, 247, 5. ' . Star of Ashburton, No. 2,58 f, 83*, 102, 244, 6. Lily of Temuka, No. 2, 52, 83, 103, 240, 7. Several Grand Lodge officers, besides visitors from Timaru and Temuka, were present. Bro. C. Ives, P.G.P., Royal Arch Druid, No. 4 Chapter, welcomed _ the competing teams, judges and visitors and in presenting the shield to the A.D. of the Timaru Lodge, congratulated them on their win. The judges congratulated the teams on their performances and stated the standard of work was equal to any performed by the Christchurch lodges*. They gave a general criticism of the manner in which the charges were delivered and added much helpful advice, for which they received a hearty vote of thanks. ANCIENT ORDER OF FORESTERS. Court Ashburton, A.0.F., met last evening, P.C.R. Bro. C. L. Olds being in the chair. Seven members were reported to be on the sick list and sick pay amounting to £2 18s was passed in their favour. A letter was received from the 'Loyal Ashburton Lodge, M. 0.1.0.0. F., inviting the Court to take part in a debate on September 2, and the invitation was accepted. It was decided to invite the Hakatere Lodge to a card match on August 16, and to start lodge at 7 p.m. on that night. A framed certificate was presented to P.C.R. Bro. C. L. Olds by W. Bro. It. W. Crowther. After lodge, members adjourned to the Hibernian Lodge rooms and took part in a card match, which was w T on by the Hibernians. THE TINWALD ODDFELLOWS. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Tinwald Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., was held last evening, when the N.G. (Bro. R. A. Downie) presided over* a good at-, tendance, visitors being present from the Loyal Mayfield and Waterton Lodges. It was reported that four members were on the sick funds and l sick . pay amounting to £2 was passed in their favour. . , The resignation of a sister woo had recently married was received. Invitations to attend the annual ball of the Loyal Mayfield Lodge on August 13 and the church parade on August 15 were accepted with pleasure. The District Secretary (Bro. A. C. Hardy) forwarded an amendment to the general rules whereby candidates between the ages of 45 and CO may join the society for funeral benefit only. The V.G. (Bro. S. J. Patton) reported on the lodge’s annual ball. Two candidates were initiated. After lodge supper was served.
