DECISIONS OF THE! ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Mount Hutt Read Board was held yesterday the chairman (Mr A. F. Mari’) presiding. The clerk (Mr A. G. Foreman) reported that owing to the continued bad weather the roads were very soft and continuous work by the maintenance staff had been necessary. With reference to unemployed relief, 11 men had been employed under this scheme and the wages amounted to £lO3 13s Id, making a total of £259 11s Id since the commencement. The scheme for levelling of the township' footpaths had been approved by the Department 'of Labour. It was proposed to employ men from the unemployment register at full-time rates of pay. The Minister of Internal Affairs wrote advising that Arbor Day had been fixed for August 11, and stressing the need for encouraging the planting of trees. It was decided to plant a series of flowering shrubs in Holmes Bequest. Mr H. E. Herring, M.P., wrote advising that the Minister of Public Works was unable to make any further grant for the work on the Whisky Creek deviation. Transfers from Alexander and Cooper to P. J. Ruck and from W. D. Brunsden to F. A. Anderson were approved. Sitting as the Methven Domain Board, the appreciation of the Ladies’ Hockey Club for a closed day for its annuai six-a-side tournament was granted 1 .
