A KILLER’S DEATH

SPEARED BY OWN PEOPLE. ABORIGINAL TRIBAL LAW. POLICE CHASE FOR 12 MONTHS. (United Press Association —Copyright.) (Received This Day, 11.25 a.m.) DARWIN, This Day. Pursued by the police for nearly 12 months and outlawed by his tribe for five tribal killings, “Smiler,” who ;s known as “the lone wolf of Arnheim Land,” has been killed in the Liverpool River district. It appears that with the police on his heels, “Smiler” was driven back toward his own country, where he was speared to death. It is unlikely that any further action will be taken by the police, as “Smiler’ s” death was caused by practically uncivilised natives in accordance with tribal custom.
