WAIPIATA PATIENTS.

DECISIONS OF THE COMMITTEE. The AVaipiata Sanatorium Committee mat at Dunedin last Tuesday, lhe chairman (Mr E. Macdonald) presided. Mr AA 7 . Bryant represented the Ashburton Hospital Board and Dr. T. McKibbin represented the Health Department. The. Maniototo Hospital Board notified that Mr T. Dowling had been reelected its representative. The Medical Superintendent (Dr. A. Kidd) reported that on June 30 there were 135 patients in the institution, 10 having been admitted and three discharged during the month. The amended rules for the control of patients in the Sanatorium were approved and tlie secretary instructed to have copies printed and forwarded to the Associated Boards and the different parties concerned. The secretary (Mr T. Pryde) reported that at the date of meeting the Associated Boards had patients in the institution as follows: —Southland 60, South Canterbury 19, Ashburton 11, AVaitaki 8, South Otago 12, Wallace 9, Vincent 8, Maniototo 6—a total of 133. Of that number 47 had been in the institution for more than 12 months. Since the previous meeting six patients had been discharged. He submitted a waiting list of 16 patients from two hospital districts, and as arrangements had been made for the immediate admission of three, and four had been otherwise provided for in the meantime, the waiting list was thus reduced to nine.

The treasurer (Mr T. Pryde) submitted a statement of the finances for the quarter ended June 30, which showed that while the revenue was fairly well maintained the expenditure was considerably more than the amount estimated, while the capital expenditure had largely exceeded the estimate for the quarter owing to the completion of certain building contracts, but this would be adjusted during the year. U n the whole the financial position was considered satisfactory. It wns decided to hold the next meeting in Dunedin on Tuesday, August 31.
