OBITUARY.

MR JOHN' CONNOR. Mr John Connor, who died at his residence, Havelock Street, Ashburton, on Friday, left Ireland in 1874 by the ship Lady Jocelyn, arriving in Canterbury in January, 1875. He followed farm work all his life, first growing wheat under contract with Mr Parsons, at Seafield, and later acquiring a farm on the estate of" Mr Parsons. He farmed this property successfully for 45 years until liis retirement in 1928. While Mr Connor did not take any active part in public work, he was always keenly interested in agricultural and pastoral pursuits, as well as local, Dominion and world affairs. Being of an amiable disposition, he was most highly respected by all with whom he came in contact. The funeral, which was private, took place this morning, Requiem Mass being celebrated by the Rev. Dean J. J. O’Donnell, who afterwards performed the sea-vice at the graveside. The bearers were Mr Connor’s nephews, Messrs M. J. O’Connor (Lower Hutt), J. P. O’Connor (Spreydon), his cousin, Mr J. R. O’Connell (Methven), and his nephew, Mr L. O’Dell (Dallington). Mr Connor is survived by his sister, Miss Bessie Connor, Ashburton, and his brother, who is farming the homestead in Ireland. He was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters.
