What has been happening on Sunday Island, and why have five settlers, after a fairly short stay, been brought back to New Zealand? This question, which has been exercising inquiring minds since a radio message that the men were leaving was received last Thursday, was not elucidated when the Maui Pomare berthed at Lyttelton today with the dissatisfied settlers on board. The men have formed a compact of secrecy with a view of composing their own story and selling it to the highest bidder. They spent some time this niqfning , endeavouring 'bp, ./ dodge cameramhn and politely hut", firmly refused information, r . Four of the five returning Sunday Islanders—Messrs A. Flewellyn, L. Flewellyn, A. Magill and S. Sneddon —• are young New Zealanders. The fifth man, Mr J. Grant, is an Englishman. The fact that they had been dissatisfied with conditions under which they lived and worked on Sunday Island was easily deducable, but of those conditions and of their relationships with the rest of the settlers they would not speafi.
