RANGER BEATEN IN TRIAL. t United Press Association— Copyright.; NEW YORK, July 29. It is reported from Newport that Mr T. (). M. Sopwith’s yacht, Endeavour 1., beat Mr H. Vanderbilt’s Ranger by a quarter of a mile in a 43 miles trial race in preparation for tbe America's Cup contest, the first event in widen takes place on Saturday. Experts are now inclined to view more favourably the prospects of the challenger, Endeavour 11. The contest consists of seven races, the trophy being awarded to the winner of four. The races alternate over a windward and leeward course of 15 miles each, and a triangular course of approximately 10 miles on each leg.
