ANNUAL CONFERENCE.
PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 30. Attended by representatives of branches at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Invercargill, the second annual conference of the New Zealand Institute of Public Administration concluded to-day. The institute, which is open to all public servants, has for its major object the study of public administration and the dissemination of. information on the best practices in this field. The conference decided to amend the constitution to permit the enrolment jf local body officea’s as members of the institute. It was felt an infusion of the opinion of local body officers would help greater appreciation of mutual problems. It was decided that a fellowship of the institute be granted only for outstanding contributions to the practice of public administration or for original research of outstanding merit. The conference also decided to award biennially a medal for the best study in the field of public administration. The competition will be open to members of the institute. It hoped to inaugurate soon a journal of public administration devoted solely to the study of that science. The desirability of university instruction in the higher fields of public administration was emphasised. Professor Hunter expressed appreciation of the institute’s efforts in this direction. Officers elected were: President, Mr J. It. Robertson; vice-presidents, Messrs W. D. Armit, S. T. Baanett, Dr. A. G. Butchers, Messrs A. McCarthy and N. R. Mclsaac; national executive, Mr G. L. Agar, Dr. Butchers, Messrs F. B. Stephens and W. Stewart; secretary, Mr C. A. McFarlane; treasurer, Mr H. Ormrod.
