PERSONAL.
A motion of sympathy with Mr J. M. Wilkie in the death of his wife was carried at the annual meeting of the Allenton Bowling Club, members standing in silence.
A Press Association telegram from Wellington states that Mr T. A. Moodie (manager of the Napier branch of the company) has been appointed superintendent for New Zealand by Dalgety and Company, in succession to the late Mr George Black.
Miss E. M. Bell, who has been m charge of the railway refreshment room at the Ashburton Bailway Station for the last year, and who left today to be married, was met by members of the staff at a. function in the Railway Social Hall last evening.. The gathering took the form of a social and gift evening. Games were played.
Mrs M. Cowan, who left to-day to take a position in Dunedin, was farewelled last evening by members of the Technical Old Girls’ Basketball Club and the Ashburton Basketball Association. Miss I. McLennan (club captain), presenting an initialled travelling rug, referred to the recipient’s long association with the club as player, referee and coach. Mrs Cowan was a foundation member some 15 years ago, and her removal to Dunedin will be a severe loss to the game. Miss R. M. Doak. on behalf of the Ashburton Basketball Association, presented Mrs Cowan with an umbrella, and extended best wishes from all basketballers for a prosperous and happy time in her new position. Master Douglas Cowan was the recipient of a Hornby train set and accessories.
