INTOXICATED IN CAR.

LICENSE CANCELLED. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 30. “The matter is one of such wide notoriety at the present time, that men who take drink and drive cars know the great risk they are taking,” said Mr F. H. Levien, S.M., in the Police Court this morning, dealing with William Selwyn Hewson, who pleaded guilty to intoxication while in charge of a motor van. The evidence showed that defendant knocked down a man, who was also under the influence of drink. Hewson was fined £5, and his license was cancelled for 12 months. Mr Levien added that about 75 per cent, of the cases of this kind coming before himself and other Magistrates, involved drivers of commercial vehicles, and that he would be establishing a precedent if he did not cancel the accused’s license.
