EDUCATION BOARD.
SOUTH CANTERBURY-N. OTAGO. "7 GOVERNMENT CONSIDERATION. (Special to the “ Guardian.”) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Consideration is being given by the Government in the drafting of the reorganised education system for New Zealand to the re-allocation of board districts in both Islands, it is understood. Although no . official confirmation can he obtained, it is learned that the scheme, if adopted, would include the creation of a separate board district for South Canterbury and North Otago. The northern part of Westlaud province, at present in the Canterbury Board district, will be allotted to Nelson, and alterations, with the creation of new districts, will also he made in the Wellington province and in Auckland. Consideration is also being given to the problem of closer co-operation between the boards and the Education Department, which provides the funds for board activities. This problem is likely to be met, it is understood, by the appointment of a certain number of Government nominees to each board instead of the present system of a wholly elective board.
