GUARANTEED PRICE.

TEMPORARY CONTINUANCE. RATE FOR DAIRY PRODUCE. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 29. The Minister for Marketing announced that until the guaranteed prices for butter and cheese for next season are decided upon, provision has been made for the continuation of the present prices. V ariations in price which have applied in respect of butter packed in Saranac boxes are to cease. In future, the equalisation of butter box costs is to be effected by the Dairy Board through the medium of its pool. The Government, however, will continue to pay a premium of l-32d per pound in respect of unsalted. butter that at the request of the department is, in special cases, wrapped in aluminium parchment foil and packed in boxes other than of the Saranac quarter-inch type. THE POSITION OF CHEESE. DANNEVIRKE, July 29. . The Minister for Agriculture (the Hon. IV. Lee Martin) has written to the local dairy company concerning the Government’s plans for payment on the last season’s cheese output. The company made representations to the Minister on the subject. “In regard to the suggestion of a further payment on tne last season’s cheese,” states the Minister, “I can only say that very full representations have been made to the Government, to the effect . that a further payment should be made to bring the average butter-fat payment made by cheese manufacturing companies up to such a, figure as will represent a premium of lfd per lb on butter-fat paid out by butter manufacturing companies, and that full and careful consideration will be given to this matter by Cabinet. “It is, of course, too soon yet to say what margin above the butter pay-out the average cheese company will show. The Government appreciates the difficulties of cheese manufacturing companies, particularly the small companies and has already agreed that the price differential for next season shall be 2d per lb butter-fat. “It is considered that an increase of id per lb butter-fat in the margin will assist the position materially.”
