Georg Ivohl, one of the three German airmen brought down by Loyalists on Monday, told the Madrid correspondent of “The Daily Telegraph” that he was attracted to Spain by the bait of more money. He was taken to Seville in a Lufthansa commercial ’plane, via Rome. A German officer instructed him to proceed to Salmanca, where ho would fight in Dornier 17, a new ’plane which the authorities evidently wish to try out under war conditions. The pilots are given objectives such as batteries to bomb from a great height.

A message from Toronto states that the seven Canadians killed in Spain Avere noted Communists. One, Tom Cicac, Avas convicted in 1932 of unlaAvful organisation. The Canadian dead total 30.

BRITAIN CLAIMS COMPENSATION.

The British Government proposes to submit to the Spanish insurgent authorities a detailed claim for compensation, for mining the destroyer Hunter. —British Official Wireless.

A suggestion published this morning that the British Government intends to grant belligerent rights in Spain when Parliament adjourned for the summer recess is emphatically denied in official quarters in London.—British Official Wireless.
BRITISH LABOUR VIEW.
OPPOSED TO RECOGNITION

The National Council of Labour, after a meeting to consider the position in Spain, issued a statement in v\ hich it said it would bo a grave danger for the Government to take advantage of the holidays and the Parliamentary recess to recognise General Franco.
