The development of the Newnes shale (oilfield is likely to begin shortly, an agreement between the Commonwealth and the New South "Wales Governments and the company, the National Oil Proprietary, Ltd., having been signed. The Federal Prime Minister (Mr J. A. Lyons) said the Commonwealth Government hopes that Newnes will be the nucleus of an organisation to produce petrol for defence purposes.
