GUARDS ATTACKED

CONVICTS IN SALT MINE.

FIGHT 2800 FEET UNDERGROUND.

THIRST FORCES SURRENDER

(United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9.55 a.m.) BUCHAREST, July 27.

Protesting against the food supply in the Targuocha salt mine, 300 convicts attacked their guards 2800 feet underground, with picks and shovels. Twelve convicts were shot dead and four guards were seriously injured. Tlie authorities cut off the water at night. The thirst-maddened convicts commandeered the lifts and came to the surface, where they were taken prisoners.
