(United Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, ,9.25 a.m.) ADELAIDE, This Day.
Discussing the decision of the AllAustralia Trade Union Congress in regard to war, Mr Curtin (leader of the Federal Opposition) declared he was not prepared to embrace that doctrine. “A wise policy for Australia is not to become embroiled in perennial disputes in the Old World,’’ said Mr Curtin. To be drawn into war in spite cf everything is had enough, but deliberately to indicate our willingness to-be a participant against certain European groups would be national madness. I will not be a party to making Australia a, 'pawn on the international chessboard.”
The All-Australian Trades Union Congress on Friday adopted what is iegarded as practically the doctrines of the Communist Party in relation to international hostilities. By 79 votes . L o 48 it rejected a proposal to reaffirm the 1935 resolution against participation in overseas wars in favour of a policy of organising the masses against war and supporting the principle of collective security through the League of Nations.
