A NARROW ESCAPE
DUCHESS OF KENT IN CAR. COLLISION ASCENDING A HILL. SOME DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. (United Press Association —Copyright.) (Received This Day, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, July 26. The Duchess of Kent and her children, Prince Edward and Princess Alexandra, had a narrow escape when the car in which they were going to Sandwich, while descending Wrotliani Hill (Kent) collided with a car ascending the bill. The side of the Royal car was damaged and a window broken. The Automobile Association scout, after an assurance that no one was injured, sought assistance. The Duchess meanwhile remained in the car and consoled the children, the younger of whom was in the nurse’s arms. The party later journeyed in a relief car to the curiously-named Bloody Point House, Sandwich Bay, where the Duke and Duchess intend leaving the children for a seaside holiday while they go to the Continent, leaving on Wednesday. , The Duke, who was in Lpndon, was informed of the accident by telephone and was told that all was well. ' For half an hour, until the arrival of the relief car, the Duchess sat in a field, comforting the children. Prince Edward was in tears. A man from a mobile coffee bar, not knowing the identity of the party, helped the duchess with a cradle over a fence into a field.
