SERIOUS FINANCIAL SITUATION.
THE EMPRESS SACRIFICINGrBER GOLD TRINKETS.

; The seriousness of the financial situation in Germany is emphasised by a despatch from Berlin stating' that the Empress has ordered that all dispensable articles of gold in the Court treasury, not possessing historic or artistic value, shall be donated to the collection oi' gold articles for the purpose of increasing Germany's monetary gold supply. Many members of the Court' aro following the Empress's example. (Received October 5, 11,30 a.m.) COPENHAGEN, October 4.
Urgent appeals aro being made to Germans to give, up gold' coins," jewellery, and ornaments. The "Tagcblatt" reports that the Empress is sending tho Imperial, family ornaments to the Reinchstag, and- that wealthy ladies aro following' her example.
