DISCHARGED SOLDIERS.
September 29. The latest progress statement issued by the Discharged Soldiers' Information Department shows that on September 27 the number of ■men on the register was 5515. Of these 4494 eases have been disposed of, 711. were still under action, and 310 were men eonvaleseiug, not ready for employment and not yet discharged by the military authorities.
Of the 449-J wises disposed of. 1820 men liavo work to return to, hare reenlisted or have returned to military duty, etc., 1049 have been placed in employment, 1032 have signed "assist^ anee not required," 142 have left Now Zealand or their addresses cannot be ascertained, 315 hare not responded to repeat-eel communications or have accepted work the Department found for them but failed to start work, and 135 have drawn sections of land.
Of 71.1 cases still tinder action, 247 are at present on the " employment wanted register."
