SHEARING RATES.
EMPLOYERS STAND FIRM
WELLINGTON, September 29. It was reported recently that the secretary of the Agricultural and Pastoral Labourers' Union had stated that many sheepowners recognised that the shearers' demand for payment at the rate of 25s was fair, and were already engaging workers at that rate.
A "Dominion" representative was informed to-day that it is quito incorrect to say that the 25s will be given by many. A few farmers in the Wairarapa have given it, but the majority thero and in Hawko's Bay aro determined to pay the £1 per 100 rate and tho 2s 6d war bonus.
A meeting attended by 50 Wairarapa sheepowners unanimously decided to keep to those terms, and a gentleman who has just returned from' a tour of the East_ Coast says that the same determination prevails in Hawke's Bay. Tho Maoris, he adds, will not stick out for the 255.
