Sir Douglas Haig reports: — We advanced at points between Martihpuich and Quoudecourt, and established posts west and south-wrat of Eaucourt - sa\d l'Abboye, within 800 yards of the village, _ * AYe consoiidated our position on the ridge north-east o£ Thiepval, and successfully shelled a marching enemy battalion, with transport. In the recent fighting our lcxsses were small relatively, and absolutely our casualties' were not more than twice the number of prisoners. One division had a difficult task, but captured as many prisoners as it had casualties'.
