COWARDICE OF GERMAN OFFICERS.
SUFFERING FROM "STOMACH-
ACHE."
(Received September 29, 9.40 a.m.) 'LONDON, September 28. A British Headquarters correspondent reports:— Prisoners state that most of the officers in some of tho German regiments were lulled. Others said they were suffering from stomach-ache, in order to get away, and when the trenches were taien the British found only non-coms, and privatos. This is reported because it is true, 1 but we must not draw too large an inference'from the behaviour of particular units. . •
The- air is full of rumours owing to the intoxicating ;ur of victory. It would bo foolish to attempt to guess how far-reaohing the'results will be, and wo must await what is behind the immediate feebleness of. resistance. Barring certain exceptions, the story of the last few days' fighting is the most 'discreditable .to... -the Qftrmons since the beginning of the battle.
