WATERTON.
<V social evening was held in tho Watcrton Hall on September 7 by tho ladies of the local branch of tho Red Cross Society. The function took the form of a dance, interspersed with songs contributed by Mr T. Jaine, aud chorisKes by tho young ladies of tho socioty. During tho evening a, cake presented by Miss M. March brought 255, and violets sold by one or two little girls 10s. Sweets nold by Mrs H. Muir realised 3s Gd. The music for the dance was supplied by Miss Gluyas and members. Supper was handed round my the ladies, and a. very enjoyable evening was brought to a close by the singing of "Auld Lang Syno." A farewell social on Sept. 13 was tendered to Private W. T. Pearson, home from Trontham on final leave. A good number of residents in the district were present. The meeting was presided over by Mr Bleo, who pre^ sen ted Private Pearson with a case of pipes oh behalf of those present, and wished him good luck and a safe re-1 turn. Mr N. March also spoke of the recipient's good 'qualities.. Private Pearson suitably responded. During the" evening songs were contributed by Miss W. Morse, Mr'D. Gilmour, MrN.\ March, and a chorus from the j young .'ad[en of tho local 'Red Cross! branch was much appreciated. Supper j was handed round by tho ladies, after, which dancinjr was indulged in to rnur.ie supplied by Mr Gluyas's .Band., Mr W. Miiir acted as M.C.
