TO FORESTALL THE ENEMY'S
TRADE.
BOARD OF TRADE'S SUGGESTION,
(Received Sept. 23, 11.5 a.m.)
LONDON, -Sept. 22
The Board of Trade Committee, which has investigated tho question of financial facilities for trade, ■ recom- j mends tho establishment of a Chartered British Trade Bank, with • a capital of £10,000,000 It is not to interfere with existing banks and financial institutions, but will fill' the gap : between the Home banks and the colonial institutions, British and foreign. Tho new institution must be equipped with an up-to-date Information Bureau, «o as to ascertain new business openings, etc. Thoro are strong reasons for the immediate formation of the bank,, in" view of the certainty of the enemy's efforts to regain their position iii world commerce and finance after tho war. Also, there is a possibility that unemployment will bo rife in Britain, unless now markots are exploited. Therefore it is desirable to ascartain in : advance the requirements of foreign -countries and the whereabouts of raw material for our industries.
