ENTERTAINMENTS. TIVOLI CONCERT PARTY.
. The Tivoli Concert Party provided ] ouo of the most, enjoyable entertain- • ments in the Theatre Royal last even- j ing that haa over been given in Ashburton, and it is to be regretted that the musitt-loving public were not preset in larger numbers to give this talented combination of artists a more cordial reception. The programme was of a. most popular naturo, and many items presented were familiar to concert goers. The Belgian Concert Party supplied the major portion of the recital, and both in solo and in trio were • exceedingly popular. Miss Ella Cacpers, who has a fine-oontralto I voice,' soon established herself as a favourite with the audience, and had to respond to numerous encores. She was particularly successful in "Abide with Me," "The Rosary,", "Caro Mio Ken," o*l*l "Coming Home" M. Jacques 80l was also a favourite' with the audience. His song from "La Boheme" (Priceini), "Your Tiny Hand is Frozen," was -sung with .considerable power; and his fine range of voice was heard-to/ good effect in this and his encore numbers.•': He was later associated with the 'Belgian Orchestra in "Songs of Araby." Mr < Frank Greene, the baritone, was in good voice, and particularly so.in "Drinkto me only with thine eyes." He also appeared in the great Belgian patriotic poora. "Cavillien," which made a fitting, termination to a very enjoyable concept.
