Mr Stanley Washburn wires from Galicia that on vSeptember 19 General Toherbacheff's army, which has been faced with most difficult country since the beginning of the great offensive, was surging on steadily. His total advance from his winter line was 14 miles. Thoro had been almost uninterrupted fighting since the cud of August, resulting in the capture of 25,000 prisoners, including <SOOQ Germans ; also 22 guns.

At the commencement of the offensive Qenerai Toherbachcff was faced by six Austrian and one German division; now there are an additional seven German divisions, including one from tho Somme, and two Turkish divisions.

The Germans are strenuously trying to hold the position and render a sweeping movement more difficult.

Tho campaign promises to become similar to that on the West front.
