ALLIES' PERFECT CO-OPERATION.
GERMAIN DIVISIONS SHATTERED
LONDON, September 20
A statement ijrom an authoritative source points out the great moral value of the perfected co-operation be- | tween the British and French armies 'on tlie Soriinje. July l)and September 8, 53 German divisions were engaged, of whom 28.had to be withdrawn quite broken, while 11 others were withdrawn to rest. Under the Allies' artillery fire and infantry pressure, the average life of a German division as a fit unit is about 19 days. Onl\- two new,, German divisions have been brought to the front line, woekly since the end or' June to replace those which were "shattered' and exhausted.: Those figures show e.ven more than the ground won how steadily and swiftly tho Allies are moving toward the • accomplishment .of their chief strategic aim, which is the destruction, as a fish-line: force, of the enemy's armies in iln» field. Of tt divisions, 28 wore used wholly against, tho British, and 20 wore wholly used against the French. Later, against the British on Sept-ambor 8, sovon German divisions were facing each of the Allied armies. Tho comrade armies are, thus cvonly sharing tho burdens of tho struggle. If one shows more ground- won, the other may claim that? larger enemy forces have been annihilated. In any case, neither army seeks separate glory in the tremendous conflict which the German General Staff has admitted will be the decisive' battle of the war.
