HINDENBURG IN COMMAND.
MACKENSEK'S MYTHICAL VICTORY.
(Received September 19, 11.60 a.m.) LONDON, September 18.
The "Daily News" Petrograd correspondent states Marshal voniHindenburg, believing that the south-eastern section is the. most critical,-, is himself taking command of Transylvania and the Carpathians. He is sending every available man to the front, making the enemies' forces in the South-east 1.500,000, of. whom 300,000 are Germans, distributed amongst their weakened allies.
Military critics in Pctrograd are of the opinion that Mackenseh's reported decisive victory in the Dobrudja is mythical. What really happened was that the Allies, being opposed by superior ■numbers,' retired.to' stronger positions, the rearguard inflicting heaviest losses on the enemy.
