AWARDS FOR THE MEN.

LONDON, September 15. Sir John Jellicoe prefaced his recommendations by saying:—" Where all carried out their duties so well, it is somewhat invidious and difficult to select officers for special recognition." The awards of the petty officers and men include the Victoria Cross to the lad John Cornwall, for his gallant behaviour for remaining on duty although mortally wounded. Thirteen medals for conspicuous gallantry include several instances where men extinguished fires and prevented explosions. One hundred and seventy-five arc given : Distinguished Service medals, and Zoo men are commended. FRENCH APPRECIATION. LONDON, September 15. 1 President Poincare has bestowed the 'Legion of Honour upon a number of i officers for their services. The Grand 1 Croix is given to Sir John Jellicoe, the Grand Office to Vice-Admiral Sir David Beatty and to Rear-Admiral H. S. Bacon, and the Croix de Com--1 mandeur to Rear-Admirals Jerram, ISturdee, Madden, Evan-Thomas, De I Chair, and Captain Tyrwhitt. Twenty-four Croix d'Office are bestowed, including Commodore Lionel Halsey and Captain Green. Fifty are awarded the Chevalier's Order," and 100 petty officers and men - aro awarded the Medalc Militaire.
