C>wing"to the second flood and the extent of the losses, the Queensland Hood committee are appealing to the public for help. The Marquis of Ripon has subscribed £20. Another instalment of £1000 was cabled to Queensland to-day. Brisbane, February 28. A deplorable state of affairs is reported from Woogooroo lunatic nsyluni, as the outcome of the floods. The inmates had to be crowded into the upper parts of the build ing, and patients in all degrees of insanity were packed togethor like sardines.
The Selwyn County Council have decided that the subscriptions collected by its members be converted into produce and goeds for the Queensland sufferers. Ths following subscriptions were col'ectod" at the Saleyards .yesterday :— D. Thomas £5 s^, W. F. Allen £1, D. Teppett ss, H. McLean ss, George Coe £1, Robert Millar 10s 6d, McOrcry 10s, M. Wilson £2 2s, D, Morrow f'l, various small amounts 7s { total '£12 4s 6d. The Mayor begs to acknowledge the receipt of £l from Mrs Elizabeth Green. Amount previously acknowledged, £119 18a 9d ; total, £133 3s 3d. The full list of subscriptions will be published in Friday's Guardian and Saturday's Mail. We have to acknowledge the receipt from Mr J. I?, Mayne, headmaster, of a cheque for £6 13s, being the amount subscribed by the teachers and pupils of the Borough School to the Queensland relief fund. Wellington, March 1. His Excellency the Governor has subscribed £25 to the Queensland Relief Fund. . •
