The Taranaki Dummying Charges.

New Plymouth, February 28. After formal evidence had been taken, Mr T. G. Waitc, Receiver of Land Revenue, gave evidence as to the amount of land held by Hendy. At the time of ! the declaration Henrtj held 253 acres on deferred payments, 630 acres on perpetual J lease, «nd other sections, amounting in {all to 1883 acres. Mr Reginald Bayley, j Assistant Land Registrar, stated that Hendy also held 120 acres as lessee of ;' land levied by the Public Trustee. The ; Court then adjourned till to-morrow. J I Saw Plymouth, March 1. The alleged dummy ism case w»s resumed this morning. Alfred Trimble was re-called and gave evidence relative to Uendy's signature in certain leases. Charles O'Hara Smith said he had been instructed from the Department to lay the information against Hendy. Remembered reporting on the charges against Hendy and Peace to the Minister of Lands, and had no objection to a copy of this report being produced. Had lodged three other informations against Hendy, and would go on with the fourth, even if defendant was acquitted on the three. He had not the slightest personal feeling in the matter. Hu had receiveii instiuctions to ins i«ut.e the strictest enquiry into all charge* like the present. O'Hdra Smith's evidence closed the case for the prosecution.
