Doubts were expressed by several speakers as to the acceptance of the scheme by the Natives, but the majority thought that it would meet the requirements of the case, and it was decided to form a branch of tho Native Land Laws League for Hawke's Bay. The Royal Arch Chapter of Druids have adopted a resolution that the time has arrived for the formation of a District Grand Lodge for tke North Island, A large number of sheep have lately been purchased in Wellington for . southern districts. The steamer Rotorua, which sailed this afternoon, took about 300 bought in the Wairarapa district; by Mr Hulcock, to be forwarded to Christchuich. The Penguin, ltaving for Lyttehon to-morrow, takes another consignment of 400, and the Ohau, which lesves to-morrow or on Saturday, will carry another instalment of 2000. The two last named flocks are understood to have been purchased also in th« Wairarapa district by Mr Mowatt. Another 1000 now in the Hutt district, will he ready for shipment to Lyttelton next week, probably by the Ohau, also consigned to Mr Mowatt. Mr Lowe, the Engineer of Working Railways, has returned from a visit to England. He inspected the French and American lines, and will furnish a report to the Railway Commissioners on what he has seen. Mr Eotherham, Locomotive Superintendent, now in America inspecting the new compound locomotives, is expected to return next month. Iwvexoakgili,, February 23. Sydney Palmer Butcher, a meeting of whose creditors was held to-day, has tiled with liabilities of £4576, of about equal amounts secured and unsecured. His. statement showed a deficiency of £1000 odd. He attributed his position to the purchase of & beast which proved cancerous. There was a groat deal uf comment on thie, and his business fell off. He lost £1000 by that, although the business recovered, and another £1000 by an exodus of customers to Australia wif hout paying their debts An ofler of £400 for the assets was rtfused, and the meeting adjourned for further investigation.
