Shropshire Down Sheep.
The result of the very successful sale of sheep held yesterday on account «f Mr c. M. Kickuaan, sufficiently demonatrates the favor with which Shropshire Downs are now regarded in the Colony as well »• ac Home. Of the poeitwo this breed occupies mKoglend, no better, evideboJ need be cited than the fact that the longest figure given for a ram lamb last *» S on was 200 guineas, credited to * Shropshire; wfiile the value of the strain for crossing purposes, with a view f* the, production of prime freezers, is proved by the demand which has sprung on for them among New Zealand nWowSer* fhe result is shown in the fact that whereas three years ago a draft from the same flock, sold at Oamaru ram fair, commanded only the insignificent sum of half-a-guinea per head, Oie prices for the whole number yarded yesterday rawed from 4| to 5 guineas, these figurjT^ deedi exceeded expectation, so much sa that whUe one southern buyer (Mr Neil Plenung, of Oanwru,) h^commLsioX for the purchase of forty rams, he waft unable to secure one of the flock, though he did succeed in purchasing some «sht of the atud rams, which were put up very little more than the ordinary run of fcr t fi «k * Thoße P«tt«n»Bed were for Hfc John Cameron, Papakaio. Mr Fletoing also purchased on account of the sami client six Shropahire stu« owat which were taken to the yards, for .diibition only, but, on the pressure^fUiepubHe. were put under the hamater and Jeeured at a very handsome igure. MrOamerw has now from 6fty to sixty pure Shrop.
